A magistrate’s court in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered the remand of a woman who allegedly poured hot water on her landlord’s wife during a scuffle.
It was gathered that the accused person, Semiat Azeez of Okinni area of Osogbo brutalised Rukayat Lukman despite knowing she (Rukayat) was pregnant.
The police prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, said the cause of the fight between the duo had not been established but that the accused person was being charged with assault.
He said while Semiat was remanded in prison, Rukayat had been taken to hospital for treatment.
However, at the resumed hearing of the case, yesterday, the family of the victim prayed the court to discharge the accused person to allow out of court settlement.
The landlord and his wife said they wouldn’t want the tenant to be in prison expressing regret over her action and sought forgiveness.
But the magistrate, Modupe Awodele, refused to discharge the tenant on the premise that she (accused) was callous to have assaulted a pregnant woman with hot water.
The magistrate further ordered her remand and summoned her parents to appear before the court on December 21 when decision would be taken on the matter.
