Do Not Be Discouraged, Muslim Teachers Implored to Apply For Tutor General/Permanent Secretary Position

Muslim teachers have been exhorted to always put themselves forward for higher positions such as tutor general/permanent secretaries without feeling discouraged by fear of failure.
This charge was given by a retired Coordinating Director, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Lagos State Education District V, Alhaja Ayoyemi Ogunsola, while addressing a workshop organized by members of the Muslim Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (MUTAN) and the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) at Igando Ikotun LCDA Hall, Ikotun, Lagos State
She implored Muslim teachers not to be discouraged by rumours that only those who have political connection can get selected. She gave an example of herself, stating that she got to the last stage of the selection for permanent secretary post without having any godfather or political connection.
She therefore encouraged Muslim teachers on grade level 16 and 17 to apply whenever permanent secretary posts are advertised.
She however charged them to prepare very well and acquire necessary skills and knowledge.
She also challenged them to be good role models and mentors to the students in order to raise quality and morally upright citizens.
It will be recalled that prominent Muslim organisations such as the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) have protested over the fact that none of the six tutor generals in Lagos State at the moment is a Muslim despite abundance of qualified Muslims.
The unit Amir of the MSSN Mallam Kamaldeen Abiona in his goodwill remark challenged Muslim teachers to encourage Muslim students to participate in MSSN programmes which he disclosed contribute to their moral and intellectual development.
He also appealed to MUTAN members to pray with the students and engage them in pep talks.
Citing example of his own school, he said he used avenue of Usrah and pep talks to train students in public speaking through book review. He also observed that currently the school co-curricular activity does not accommodate MSSN meetings
He also urged teachers to see it as a win win approach that as they are assisting MSS through engagement with the students Allah will reward them immensely for it.
The Amir MSSN Igando-Ikotun, Mal Murtadha Ajiboye, in his welcome speech focused on bringing MUTAN and MSSN under one umbrella to chart a new course for the future of Islam in Igando-Ikotun area council and Nigeria at large.
According to him,the programme is an avenue to interact and address challenges facing the future of Islam i.e students to make them worthy ambassador of Islam.
He said the students are vulnerable and need guidance from MSSN and MUTAN so that they will leave school better than they came in.
He emphasised the need to add values to the students
