Contributory Pensioners Go Into Prayer, Seek Divine Intervention Over Outstanding Entitlement

Contributory pensioners in Lagos State have gone into prayers in order to secure divine intervention over payment of their outstanding payments. The pensioners under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) help prayer session last week held prayer session in Kosofe Lagos State.
The session was presided over by the chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, Lagos state Council, Comrade Michael Omisande.
According to Omisande, the resort to divine intervention was necessitated by the frustration experienced by members over failure to heed to their needs.
He said life had not been easy for the pensioners while listing some of the outstanding payment to include 15 percent award in 2007, 33 percent in 2010, consequential adjustment from 30 thousand naira minimum wage in 2019, 20% to 28% in 2024 and 32 thousand naira wage award to all pensioners among others. He therefore appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu, to help in implementation of the increases that have already been approved by the state House of Assembly.Seeking speedy implementation, Omisande disclosed that many of the members have died while waiting for the payments and others are living under perilous condition as they cannot afford basic necessities such as feeding and medical expenses.Comrade Omisande however commended the Governor for being the first Governor to clear the backlog of pension liabilities.‘I must inform you that the proposal on the 2024 Amendment of Pension Reform Act has been accepted by the National Assembly and is awaiting President Tinubu’s Assent. As a union we have met with DG Pencom and Minister of Finance for positive discussion. We are doing these to live a better life and leave an enviable legacy for the oncoming pensioners. Those working against our success shall soon begin to cry as the Law of Karma is awaiting them’, he declared.
