Muslim teachers have been challenged to see their profession as more than an occupation, but as a divine calling that derives from Allah.
This charge was made by an Islamic scholar, Ustaz Abdul Hafeez Toyin Salahudeen, while delivering the 2025 Ramadan lecture of the Muslim Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (MUTAN) Alimoso Zone at the weekend.
Salahudeen said being a Muslim and a teacher is a double honour as the teacher is doing the work of Allah who is the first teacher.
He implored teachers to ignore the negative description of the profession.
He disclosed that teachers have a vital role in reforming the decadent society.
‘The Muslim teachers are supposed to be at the forefront of those who would manage the world. All the Prophets were teachers. All the companions were teachers. If you listen to the story of Islamic empire you would recall many Islamic teachers who have influenced knowledge. They are in all fields of science, medicine etc’, he said.

He therefore challenged Muslim teachers not to see themselves only as teachers of their subject areas, but role models who have come to instil order and morality in an increasingly decadent world.
The Alimoso zonal chairman of MUTAN, Mr Rasak Abolaji, in his welcome address challenged Muslim teachers to be role models exhibiting the qualities of Islam.
He also called on younger members of MUTAN to familiarise themselves with the activities and running of the association in order to effectively take over from the current leadership.

Alhaji Oladoyin, delivering goodwill message, appreciated the present executive of Àlímòsó zone while calling on members to display the MUTAN character of dedication and exemplary conduct.

The event also witnessed conferment of awards on members of the association who have distinguished themselves.
The awardees include Alhaji Muslim Abiade Adeniji, Alhaja Fausat Taiwo Sadiq, Alhaja Kafilat Olapeju Salahudeen, Alhaja Muftiat Abiodun Adeyinka and Alhaja Musili Ayobami Oyinlola.
Others are Alhaja Asanat Adebayo, Alhaja Latifat Bola Raimi and Alhaji Sarafadeen Orolade.
The Ramadan lecture is a regular item in the calendar of the association and the Alimoso zone regularly marks it on the second Saturday in Ramadan.
This year’s event was graced by prominent members past and present as well as good representation of the state Board of Trustees.
Attendants include former state MUTAN chairman, Alhaji Raheem Alliyu, past State Missioner, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladoyin, past state deputy chairman, Alhaji Raheem Adekunbi, former State Secretaries, Alhaja Mojirayo Adedokun and Alhaji Hassan Agbaje as well as many serving members.
